Crowns (Same Day)

What is a Crown?

Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, discoloration and others. If you feel your smile isn’t what it once was, crowns can help you recover your smile. If your dentist notices that a tooth is decayed or seems weakened/cracked a crown may be necessary to make sure that there are no additional problems with the tooth. In cases like this a filling or bonding will not be sufficient.

At An Apple A Day Family Dentistry, we are committed to providing only the most current, state-of-the-art dental procedures, materials, and equipment to our patients. With the introduction of one of the practice’s newest technology, CEREC, patients can receive a dental crown in just a single appointment.

An Apple A Day Family Dentistry uses 3D technology that combines a digital camera, computer and computer-controlled milling machine to quickly create a detailed digitized mold of your damaged tooth. CEREC one-visit crowns are natural in appearance, compatible with other tissues in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant, making them a superior alternative to traditional crowns, which often require two or more visits. Restoring a single tooth with CEREC typically takes less than one hour.”We are always looking to stay on top of the latest dental techniques and procedures,” said Dr. Julie Buchanan, “But its also fun and exciting, and my patients deserve it and they love it.” CEREC is an exciting technology that has actually been around for over 25 years but has really taken off within the past five years with the advancement of the 3D. Patients no longer need to wear a temporary crown while waiting for a permanent crown to be manufactured at an off-site lab. A single restoration can be performed in as little as a lunch break right in our office.” CEREC can also be used to replace the unsightly silver fillings (amalgam) and replaced with a tooth matching shade filling, known as an inlay or an onlay.

Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or a full gold crown. To maintain a natural look and feel a porcelain finished crown is best, as it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. This will allow it to blend in and appear just like one of your natural teeth.
